About Sandra Grills – Founder
Sandra has a BFA in Theatre and a Diploma in Business Management.
While living in Edmonton she worked at a very cool web design company as the Delivery Manager, which meant schedule management, HR management, project management, operations, & anything else that needed doing! She spent her evenings and weekends working at a local childrens theatre, where she directed and did set design for the plays.
After returning to Calgary and having two wonderful children, life took a left turn. As it seems with so many individuals involved in the gluten free industry there is a very close and personal connection. In the summer of 2009 both Sandra’s children were diagnosed with Celiac Disease. They were 2 and 4 years old and it was a major life adjustment.
When shopping became a frustrating and disheartening experience, Sandra began to explore other options and The Gluten Free General Store was the result in December of 2009. Fast forward 6 years and the need for a specialty store is not longer as important. Gluten free food has become a staple in all grocery stores, gluten free labeling has been legislated and it is so much easier to shop.
This means that Sandra is able to move back to her creative pursuits.
